VG Power has been awarded a major contract from Fortum to refurbish Skedvi HPP in Dalälven River, Sweden. The investment is part of Fortum´s long-term hydropower investment programme and also one of the biggest investments this year in their Swedish hydropower. The aim is to improve the production, efficiency and safety of hydropower plants through an annual investment of EUR 80-100 million. Read more

Effective from beginning of April 2011 has VG Power opened a new office in Kristinehamn with turbine experts available for the Swedish market. We are already working with several projects in Sweden together with our partners from Voith Hydro, one example is the ongoing installation of the first new Kaplan unit in Akkats. Read more

VG Power has together with Trafikverket (previous Banverket), Jernbaneverket and Luleå Generatorservice worked together during several years with improvements in the design of the old rotating converters that supplies the railway power grid with 16.67 Hz electricity. Read more

VG Power has together with Voith Hydro, Heidenheim signed an agreement with KHR Hinterrhein concerning refurbishment of 11 units in Switzerland. The deliveries will take place between 2012-2016 for the hydro plants in Sils, Bärenburg and Ferrera. Scope of delivery is new stators and poles including brushless exciters. VG Power will perform all engineering works and also supply the new exciters.Total contract value is around 32 M€ and our share is important. The contract also includes 2 smaller units in Thusis. The new stator for one unit in Ffestiniog pump storage plant, which has been stacked and winded on site, is now tested and ready for installation later this year. The plant which is located in Wales with 4 units and a total output of 360MW is owned by First Hydro and was taken in to operation 1963.
The complete new motor/generator stator rated 95/106MVA, 428rpm and 16kV is scheduled to replace one of the existing stators during a 7 week outage later this year. First Hydro Company is one of the UK's most dynamic electricity producers, responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in the Snowdonia region of Wales. Unit 2 in Lotru HPP, Romania, has now since mid of February been in successful operation on time according to contract signed with client Hidroelectrica in April 2007. The scope of supply was new stator, rotor poles, new rotor rim, excitation and complete refurbishment of other remaining parts.
The site activities are now proceeding with the rehabilitations of unit 1 and 3, both are expected to be ready for operation this year. All generator works has been procured by VG Power together with Voith Hydro S:t Pölten, Austria, who are responsible for the turbine part (pelton). Read more

VG Power has signed a contract with Kemijoki OY regarding design, manufacturing and installation of a new upgraded stator for Petäjäskoski hydro power plant, located close to Rovaniemi, Finland. Existing stator rated 60 MVA, 100 rpm will be replaced with a new and the generator will be upgraded to 70 MVA.
The client is also performing upgrade of the turbine and the power plant is scheduled to be ready for commercial operation in november 2011. VG Power has recently supplied similar upgrade of Ossauskoski power plant for the same client. Read more

The modernisation of Letsi HPP, Lilla Lule River, performed by Vattenfall AB Vattenkraft is getting closer to the end. The aim is to renew unit 1 and 2 with among several items new stators supplied by VG Power. Unit 1 is already in operation since last year and unit 2 is now being installed.
The new stator rated 173MVA, 16kV is weighing 200 tonnes. Besides new stators are we also supplying new thrust bearings and brackets together with other auxiliary equipment. Unit 2 is expected to be back in operation early 2010. Read more

VG Power has signed a contract with Eidsiva Vannkraft AS regarding design, manufacturing and installation of a new vertical generator 333 rpm, 114 MVA for Rendalen II in the municipality of Rendalen. The power plant which already has one underground unit built 1971 utilize the head of 210 m between lake Glomma and Lomnessjön will now be extended with this second unit.
The plant is owned by Opplandskraft DA which is a joint company owned by Akershus Energi AS, E-CO Vannkraft AS, Oppland Energi AS and Eidsiva Vannkraft AS. New Rendalen power plant will be one of the regions largest hydro plants with an annual production of 750 GWh. Total investment in this new plant is app. 450 million NOK. The generator from VG Power is supplied complete including excitation equipment and will be ready for operation in 2012. Read more

The new runner is now hoisted in to the pit in Ligga power plant, Lule river. The 5-blade kaplan runner with a diameter of 7500 mm, weight 195 t and output 170 MW is the most powerful kaplan runner in Sweden. Model tests have previously been carried out together with the client Vattenfall and the refurbished unit 3 is expected to be in operation later this autumn.
Besides the new runner from VOITH Hydro, VG Power is also performing various generator works including a new static excitation rated 1575 A. Read more

The Lotru project, in Romania, is now entering an intensive period as site work is performed for all 3 units in parallel. The new stator for 1:st unit is completed and core stacking is in progress for the refurbished frame on second unit. The third unit is also being dismantled and the new rotor for first unit is under construction. When all work is completed all 3 generators will be rated 185 MVA each. The generators are rated 375 rpm and 15,8 kV.
VG Power is supplying all generator refurbishment including new excitation systems and our colleagues from VOITH Hydro in Austria is responsible for the turbine refurbishment (Pelton). All units are expected to be in operation during 2011. Read more

VG Power was awarded a major contract just before christmas from Kemijoki Oy for three Static excitations systems to be delivered in 2007-2008. The delivery to Kemijoki will be made in co-operation with Avecon, our representative in Finland.
